MIDDAY ROUNDUP

@ 12:00 pm by Michael O'Brien

Reports out Minnesota are cause for optimism among liberal bloggers today, while conservatives buck up Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) a day after he took heat from the right for refusing to endorse Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) for president in 2012. Also, bloggers contemplate whether a TV sketch poking fun at a governor’s disability went too far.

Considering favorable decisions by a state board last week and a review by the Associated Press of challenged ballots, Democrat Al Franken has an opportunity to make up ground in Minnesota’s contested Senate race, Senate Guru contends. It looks like the election’s inevitable lawsuits will have ended by this Friday, kos argues at Daily Kos, which is cause for cautious optimism.

A new “McCain-Feingold” tackling earmark reform may not go as far as many on the right may like, but this one wouldn’t’ give conservatives cold sweats, RedState’s Brian Faughnan blogs. And for McCain to have answered the question on TV yesterday about his 2012 endorsement would have been in poor taste, given the election just ended, The Corner’s Kathryn Lopez writes, before sarcastically noting McCain may want to leave the door open to endorse Obama.

A Saturday Night Live sketch poking fun at New York Gov. David Paterson (D), who is blind, for that disability has Paterson miffed at his portrayal, the Huffington Post notes. Mocking him for former drug use is fair game, but making fun of him because he is blind is not, the Media Blog’s Greg Pollowitz says. SNL made fun of him not once, but twice, Townhall’s Matt Lewis points out, who leaves it up to readers to determine whether the skits are offensive.
