MIDDAY ROUNDUP

@ 1:05 pm by Chris Good

The recount underway in Minnesota’s Senate race has liberal bloggers waxing optimistic as incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman’s lead (R) appears to be shrinking, while some conservative bloggers bid “good riddance” to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) after the Senate gave him a standing farewell ovation yesterday.

Supporters of Democrat Al Franken have reason to be optimistic, TalkingPointsMemo’s Josh Marshall suggests, noting that Coleman’s lead is down to 136 votes from the previous total of just over 200. Franken is edging closer to victory, Firedoglake’s Blue Texan writes, while Daily Kos’s kos calls Coleman’s 136-vote lead “measly.”

The Senate will not miss Stevens, despite the fond farewell he received yesterday, John J. Miller asserts at The Corner. Senators’ standing ovation was “disturbing” to Townhall.com’s Matt Lewis, who notes that Stevens is leaving his Senate seat after being convicted of corruption.

And Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) is roasted for giving a television interview while a turkey is slaughtered several yards behind her. The video is so bizarre you just have to see it to believe it, The Huffington Post writes, while The Daily Dish’s Andrew Sullivan remarks in amazement that MSNBC’s caption, “Gov. Palin apparently oblivious to turkey carnage over her shoulder” is one of the best he’s ever seen.

  1. from a PR standpoint, one might give Palin the benefit of the doubt… but seriously, she might consider her surroundings a bit more before she goes on interviews that millions will end up watching
