Ethics Committee to Investigate Rep. Rangel's Personal Finances

@ 3:20 pm by Chris Good

The House ethics committee will likely investigate Rep. Charles Rangel's (D-N.Y.) personal finances, as committee chairman Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) today announced he would advise the panel to do so, honoring Rangel's own request for a review.

"It is my intent to recommend to Ranking Member Hastings and the Committee that we honor Chairman Rangel's request. We have a Standards Committee meeting posted for Wednesday, September 24," Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) said in a statement today.

Rangel plans to hire a forensic accountant to examine his personal finances, the New York Democrat announced this week as he faced mounting criticism over several financial scandals that have dogged him this summer. The accountant will turn findings over to the committee for investigation, Rangel said.

Rangel has faced calls from Republicans to step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, though Rangel's attorney has denied that such a move is under consideration.

The committee is already investigating Rangel for several scandals that have plagued him of late: his failure to pay taxes on rental income from a Dominican Republic villa, earmarks for a community college center bearing his name, and his four rent-controlled apartments in New York City.

  1. CHARLIE RANGEL SHOULD RESIGN AND IF NOT SHOULD BE FORCED TO STEP DOWN, NOT ONLY HAS HE UNDER REPORTED HIS INCOME, THE LAW THAT WE ALL TAXPAYERS SHOULD GO BY IS PAY AS YOU GO. THIS WAS NOT AN OVER SIGHT BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAPPEN ONLY ONE YEAR. HE IS HABITUAL AND IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH. HE IS NOT ABOVE THE LAW, I DON'T THINK SO!!! HE HAS DONE THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN EACH YEAR HE IS CHEATING ALL OF US TAXPAYERS. ALL THE GOOD ABIDING CITIZENS PAY OUR TAXES IN THE PAY AS YOU GO SYSTEM, HOW CAN HE NOT PAY HIS TAXES AND THEN EXPECT FOR ALL THE GOOD AMERICANS TO PAY THEIR TAXES. HE IS NOT A GOOD PATRIOTED CITIZEN AND HE SUPPORTS OBAMA. HE DOES DESERVE A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. WITH HIS CONNIVING STUPID MIND HE IS PROBABLY THINKING HE IS DOING NOTHING WRONG THAT HE IS ACTUALLY CREATING JOBS, BECAUSE IF IT WAS NOT FOR PEOPLE LIKE HIM MAYBE THE GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT HAVE TO HIRE SO MANY PEOPLE TO GO AFTER THIS WACKO. PELOSI, STOP HIDING THIS WACKO, YOU ARE ONLY WHAT YOU ARE WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING. THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE NOT FREE, YOU NEED TO PAY YOUR TAXES AND MOST IMPORTANT REPORTED IT. LEARN BY EXPERIENCE PREFERABLY OTHER PEOPLE'S, IT WARNS US AGAINST DOING THE SAME THINGS IN THIS CASE A LESSON TO YOU. THROW THE BOOK AT HIM.
