Gingrich Tells McCain to Avoid a 'Boring, Normal, Mainstream Republican White Guy' for VP

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is telling John McCain to steer clear of a "boring, normal, mainstream Republican white guy" in his vice presidential selection.

"What I'm afraid of is that if Sen. McCain picks one more relatively boring, normal, mainstream Republican white guy who would be like, you know, a cookie cutter…he just makes the ticket seem boring compared to the level of energy and drive and excitement that Obama has," Gingrich says in an audio recording made Monday and posted on his website Wednesday.

"This fall there is going to be a lot of energy surrounding the Obama campaign, and we need to find ways to generate a substantial amount of energy around the McCain campaign. And an effective, dynamic, different kind of vice presidential nominee I think would make a difference."

The two possible Republican veeps who Gingrich thinks could make a difference are Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Gingrich said Palin "has a great reform reputation" and would "bring a level of excitement and uniqueness that people would have to stop and stay 'boy this is kind of intriguing, this is something new.'"

Gingrich also had very high praise for Jindal, but the Louisiana Republican took himself out of the running shortly after the recording was posted, saying, "I'm not going to be the vice presidential nominee or vice president."

    of pandering the black, homosexual, liberal,
    people who never made a living in an honest
    market. We don't care to hear Sen. McCain tell
    us what is wrong with Sen. Obama. We know and
    voted for Sen. McCain. Tell Sen. McCain to hit
    on what he is going to do. His solutions.

  2. This is a further example of Mr. Gingrich's quota mentality, which he exhibited while Speaker. He seems to believe that most Americans are preoccupied with this racial-identity nonsense as the MSM is.

    In fact, they're not. What Mr. Gingrich calls boring others would call normal.

    Finally, the two he chose as possible McCain VP picks have either removed their name from consideration (Jindal) or have family responsibilities that would prohibit accepting the VP slot (Palin). Governor Palin had her fifth child a few months ago, and the baby has Down's Syndrome. It is highly unlikely that she would abandon her family (and that is the right word) — as well as her state — to run for VP.

  3. Dan, the hard working, normal folks in the market are handling things nicely. I don't know what problems you think Senator McCain needs to address but I'm sure everything will get the attention it deserves when it becomes profitable. By the way, when has Senator McCain ever worked in the private sector? As far as I know he's been on the public tit for all of his life except for a brief stint with his father in law. He is of course a war hero which is good, it's getting hard to find a Republican that's even served these days. Sorry, gotta run to meet with Mitch M, Lindsey G, Larry C and Mark F. Thursday night is our bowling night. Heck, sometimes we actually bowl. Peace, Willy T.

  4. Is there really a veep candidate out there who wouldn't make McCain look like a total loser? Oh, and Mr. Woesner, I beg to differ with you on your characterization of the market as "honest", given the wealth of evidence to the contrary. Also, the term "liberal" is not synonymous with race, sexual orientation, or work ethic. Please look it up! You don't, however, need to look up the word "bigot". I'm sure Senator McCain will give you some statements on his plans, in fact, he already has. It's whatever he thinks his audience wants to hear at the moment (when he's not having a "senior" moment.

  5. Sarah Palin is a first term governor now embroiled in a huge scandal. You can take her off the list as well.

    In the end McCain will lose no matter who he picks but he will pick Romney b/c Romney has money, is liked by Ann Coulter, and his father was the former Governor of Michigan.
