Reid Ties Congress's Approval Rating to Bush

@ 4:16 pm by Chris Good

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) today pointed to President Bush’s unpopularity as an explanation for Congress’s single-digit approval rating.

"Any time you have a president that is down so, so far in poll numbers, it drags down a city councilmember. It drags down any elected official, including us, and we recognize that," Reid said when asked about Congress’s rating.

Rasmussen reported today that Congress’s approval rating has slipped to 9 percent—down two percentage points from last month, and the first-ever single-digit rating for Congress in Rasmussen’s history.

Polls this month show Bush’s approval between 29 and 30 percent. But Reid said pollsters told him Bush’s rating is lower.

"I had a meeting last night with some pollsters and other consultants. One of them said that the president's approval rating is down, I think he said, 11 percent," Reid said.

  1. Mr.Reid, along with Mrs.Pelosi,is the primary cause of Congresses'all time low rating.Together these two, self centered millionaires have done nothing but make hollow promises,flip-flop on issues and in general been totally useless as leaders.Mr.Reid has taken advantage of his position of trust and had "pork" directed to his home state,at an alarming rate, and provided his own family with sweetheart lobbying and consulting jobs;absolutely disgusting. He should be voted out so that he can enjoy the spoils of his tenure and is very large pension.

  2. The Democrats swept into power by promising change. All they did was pursue one baseless witch hunt after another. Claiming criminal activity everywhere (where there wasn't) in the Bush administration. Of course nothing ever came from it except the loss of time and TAX PAYER money.

In the meantime they didn't address any of the issues that were pressing and now we find ourselves with an economic slowdown, gas prices and housing crunch.

The so-called economic slowdown is due in part to the success in Iraq. The Dems and the main stream Media had to throw someone under the train to try to retake the Whitehouse. Say it long enough and people will believe it and make it true.

If Reid thinks this latest excuse will convince the voters he has done a great job as the Senate leader, it's time for a wake-up call. The public is not as stupid as he thinks… they won't believe ANOTHER Dem excuse as to their record-low lousy poll ratings. Record-low performance gets you EXACTLY what you deserve.

  3. Ried is a big part of the rating of the congress he is the weakest leader of the Senate I can recall since Mitchell. Ried has shown zero leadership in controlling the agenda of he Senate
So althoght the White Houses rating is very low Reid cannot ride those coat tails he has done nothing to improve Congress's ratings.

  4. The problem with Congress is their own failure, not Bush's failure. Liberalism always blames others when their way fails to work. Then, when you stack on top of that the fact that the current crop of people in congress have abandoned the principles of individual freedom and limited government, they should expect low ratings. The people of America get it, even if Congress doesnt. It's time for new leadership in Congress, across the board, in both parties.

  5. Can this silly man be any further into denial? Congressional ratings have nothing to do with the President's ratings and everything to do with the abysmal performance - or non-performance - of Reid, Pelosi and company. What an egotistical nincompoop!

  6. Harry Ried has a serious mental problem. The trouble is the media will listen to this man.

  8. IF Congress's approval rating IS tied to President Bush–and I'm not saying it is–it is far more likely that the President's rating is pulling Congress's rating UP from where it deserves to be.

  9. What a LOAD OF CRAP. Are these people for real.
I find them all utterly detestable.

  10. The libs/Dems love to tell us every chance they get that there are three co-equal branches of Governmnet. Listen up Reid. Only CHILDREN (the DEM Party) try to blame someone else when they get caught in a screw-up.

  11. What a mess we've gotten ourselves into since we've asked God to leave our schools, work places, homes and government. God doesn't go where He is not wanted. If you don't believe that, just look at the leadership in Congress. We'd better start praying because God is the only one that can clean up this mess!!

    Comment by Cheryl Smith — July 9, 2008 @ 2:15 pm

  12. Why, of course! According to the Democrats, EVERYTHING that is not right in this country and the rest of the world is Bush's fault. Boy he sure is one powerful and influential man!
