Poll: Sen. Martinez Vulnerable in 2010

@ 3:28 pm by Chris Good

Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) could face a tough reelection bid in 2010, a new poll finds.

Martinez had a 23 percent approval rating in his home state and failed to beat two possible 2010 opponents in a survey conducted by Public Policy Polling.

The firm compared Martinez to Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) and Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink (D). Wexler tied Martinez at 33 percent, while Sink beat the GOP senator 37 percent to 31 percent. Sink and Wexler have both been bandied as possible opponents for Martinez in the liberal blogosphere.

The polling firm surveyed 723 Floridians June 26 to 29 for the study.

  1. Defeating Mel Martinez will not be a major loss for the Republicans. Two words: Charlie Crist. CC is an up and coming "populist" Republican w/ future Presidential potential. He will join Bobby Jindahl in that list.

  2. Martinez should never have been elected. Bill McCallum was a much better choice and will probably run in 010. He is a good and decent man where Martinez is an illegal immigrant pusher and a liberal. RINO.

  3. PPP is a Democratic-leaning firm, though.

  4. I hope Sen. M. Martinez loses.
He has been an awful senator.
    America deserves better.

  5. To be beaten in anything by Wexler bodes badly for Martinez—neither one of them is worth the time of day…McCallum is a much better choice than these two……Lee Clapp
