Pelosi Says D.C. Could Continue Gun Regulation

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says that despite the Supreme Court decision to strike down its gun ban, the District of Columbia will still be able to regulate firearms.

"I think it still allows the District of Columbia to come forward with a law that’s less pervasive," Pelosi said at her weekly briefing Thursday. "I think the court left a lot of room to run in terms of concealed weapons and guns near schools."

It's time to remove Pelosi from office. She has led the congress to the lowest rating in years. She is incompetent. She promised to take care of gas prices, under her leadership we see the highest gas prices ever. Under her leadership we see the same corruption and divisievenss as before. And now she basically hours after the Supreme Court gives a decision is trying to alter their opinion.
It's time for this type of leadership to leave.

I do not believe that this will change the crime stats at all. After all, those people who would commit armed crimes never obeyed the law in the first place. It will simply work nationwide to further the cause of freedom. It will also keep the government honest. The quickest path to the loss of freedom is the loss of the ability to defend it.

Shrieker Pelosi (as usual) hasn't got a clue of what's going on here. The SCOTUS struck down the D.C. ban on handguns because it infringed on the Constitutional rights of the citizens of D.C. as defined in the Second Amendment.

The SCOTUS has spoken on this issue, and the Fentys, Pelosis, and their fellow gun grabbers are now political worm food.

At noon today, I saw the DC Mayor's office go on and on about that they still plan on strict gun control, registration, etc., etc. Those SOB's gave NO apology for VIOLATING their citizens Second Amendment rights, and are still going to make it as tough as possible for the law-abiding to own a gun.

They also brought out their lead lawyer (the guy looked like a cross between the mafia and Lurch) who plans to go over the ruling to see how much gun control that they can get away with. What a scum! Well they all are in fact.

Keep in mind the desperate attempts the liberals will concoct if a liberal gets elected to the office of the president to change this ruling. Criminals around the country beware, the playing field just became more even. This was the most important supreme court ruling of modern times, if not all times, because it validates the real constitution and protects it.

The great danger of SCOTUS decision is the fact that it was only one vote from throwing out the 2nd ammendment of the Constitution. If dems win in 08, the next appointments to the Supreme Court will be liberal, and then goodbye 2nd ammendment.

Pelosi said she was surprised by the justices moving away from precedence. First, what precedence is she talking about? There has never been a case saying we do not a fundamental right to own firearms. not employed in a military capacity pistols larger than .22. that means the 1911 and many others like it. semiauto rifles, shotguns and bolt action rifles. just got banned because they are employed in a military capacity.

She's actually correct. Lose the hate speach and educate yourselves people.
I agree with the ruling, it not only keeps handguns available for self defence, it also closes the door on the NRA's slippery slope arguement. The people have a right to bear arms, but the government does reserve the right to limit those rights.

Well, hopefully the first regulation DC puts in will be prohibit members of Congress from owning a gun. After all, the Supreme Court decision did say that some regulations, such as limiting firearm ownership by the mentally challenged, are allowed. The majority of Congress falls into this category.

It is a GREAT idea to have every ADD kid with an anger issue with a concealed weapon near a school. did anyone read the decision? it said that a state or city cannot OUTLAW guns, a statement with which I agree, but it also said that they can be regulated reasonably. is that so fricking AWFUL to you people. Do you really LIKE homicidal little gang bangers to carry their weapons around and not be even questioned until they off six people! All pelosi said was that you could be restricted from carrying a gun near a school or that their could be a law about concealed weapons. AND you people went nuts! And please, don't give me the song and dance about self protection in a school. the schools are the safest places on earth, and the kid who carries a weapon for "self protection" is usually the most delusional. we have a lot of truly crazy people in this country who do not YET have a record, and having worked in a group home for "troubled" youth i do not really want them to have a weapon.

With the announcement of the most important constitutional ruling in history, Pelosi, and all the other mindless gun grabbers in DC and across the US, still are trying to spin this into some kind of a partial victory that they can somehow circumvent. After all, it was a 5-4 decison, so somehow that does not really count since it was so close. I guess they do not see the tidal wave approaching them to overturn many of the other gun bans in cities and states. Soon we will again to see the term "reasonable" being used. In the liberal vernacular "reasonable" means "my way". I think that the virtual handgun ownership ban in Chicago will be the net domino to fall. Heller should have a memorial dedicated to him in DC.

This is to Commentor #69. This decision is not just about DC's gun ban being overturned. It effects us all. The Court (well, 5 of them) has decided that we should not be treated as children and be allowed to own guns to protect ourselves in our homes. If you are a criminal and you're not sure if the person you thinking of robbing has a gun or not, you may actually think twice, and then find a liberal to rob. They're much easier targets.

Anyone bashing pelosi for her comment is retarded. By that account so is our supreme court- let me explain:

The second amendment says NOTHING about personal rights to firearms. It does not say the government cant choose which arms we may/may not have and explictly says they MUST be well regulated.

The DC regulation was strict, but was NOT a ban on firearms- it was good sense to keep families safe.

We should ban all handguns- rifles and shotguns are more well-suited to home defense and even the NRA agrees on that point.

The ban in DC was not in violation of the second amendment and this 5-4 decision would have been 3-6 if it were not for Bush's new appointees.

Everyone in this country needs to learn to read and then memorize our constitution and amendments. Our neighbors in Canada are more familiar with it then we are. It's a stupid joke and most of the commenters on this page should be ashamed/embarrassed for speaking so ignorantly about Pelosi for saying the RIGHT thing.

The Supreme Court struck down the DC law as to restrictive. It did not rule that DC would never be allowed to restrict guns ownership so Ms Pelosi is correct in her statment. Some gun laws do make sense you realize. Convicted violent criminals should not be allowed legal possesion of guns, I know that they can get the illegally but that is another problem. On a personal note I don't think any liberal should be allowed a gun since they tend to think that no one should be allowed one.

By the gun control crowd's own admission. Gun crime goes on in DC by criminals everyday. This law in no way affects criminals since criminals by definition ignore laws.

This Supreme Court decision only made it so law abiding citizens have a fighting chance against those criminals.

Now the violent crimes should start going down a little as the would be criminals will not know who is armed and who is not. This will make the criminal mind think twice before robbing someone in his or her home.

After Florida allowed for concealed weapons, the crime rate didn't go up as the Libs suggested, instead, it went down a little. Then Florida decided one may use deadly force to defend him or herself instead of being required to retreat. Again the Libs screamed that the crime rate would jump and yet it stayed the same. No difference. Liberals, get over it. Law abiding citizens do not cause the violent crime. Rather, criminal tend to attack the unarmed over the armed.

Well, here Queen Pelosi goes again. If the Supreme Court makes a ruling she doesn't like she simply states they can ignore it. She really is an imcompetent Speaker of the House and sets a horrible example.
She wants to silence her opponents on the radio because the liberals cannot produce a radio broadcast that the public will listen to and wants to impose this Fairness Doctrine so the libs can have equal time but she really desires to silence the opposing side. How do we get people elected to Congress who do not work for what is best for our country, only things that promote thier private agenda's. The Democrat congress representatives appear to be lemmings who only follow orders from Pelosi and cannot think for themselves. How SAD.
