ActBlue Donations Total $50 Million

@ 1:54 pm by Chris Good

ActBlue, an online fundraising network for Democrats, announced today it has helped raise $50 million for Democratic candidates since its launch in 2004.

ActBlue allows donors to give money to candidates and coordinate fundraising efforts through its website. See the website here.

"Small dollar donations are the key to Democratic strength, because as we've seen with the Obama campaign, sustainability comes from being able to return to your base and ask for help when you need it," says ActBlue Executive Director Jonathan Zucker said today in a release announcing the $50 million total. "We're building that capacity for Democrats at every level. You don't have to be a national campaign to harness the power of small donors."

ActBlue spokeswoman Marissa Doran told The Hill ActBlue has helped funnel $32.1 million to Democratic candidates since the beginning of 2007.

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.
  1. I am so impressed with the campaign contributions. Could you help me understand how the campaigns verify the validity of the information they receive from individuals and bundlers? Isn't it awfully easy to fudge the info? As a novice to campaigns, I am sure that I don't know the ins and outs. But honestly, as a professional organizer and a senior staffer on the Hill for over three years many moons ago, I have never been able to get so much money for any cause. Also, I worked with so many foreigners who would have loved to give money but couldn't because we were so careful about everything as it was local. Now on the internet, it seems you can just write anything almost, can't you?

What are the penalties for abuse for the individual and the campaign? How is the data verified by some objective outside body? What is the election apparatus doing to verify everything, including the monitoring processes of the campaigns?

    Thanks Helene
