Pelosi on McClellan: 'I Totally Agree'

@ 6:01 pm by Andy Barr

While the Bush Administration is making clear that allegations coming former White House press secretary Scott McClellan are "total crap" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi believes McClellan is absolutely correct.

"I totally agree," Pelosi said during an editorial board meeting with the San Francisco Chronicle.

"This is a person who was talking to the press, supplied with information that he trusted to be truthful," Pelosi told the paper. "So I'm sure he felt zapped. Because what could he say, except what he trusted to be the case?"

"I almost wonder how anybody associated with this war, unless they were of completely different philosophy, would not come to the conclusion that this war is a grotesque mistake, that it was misrepresented from the start, not prepared for correctly."

  1. Has Nancy read his book? Does she have a clue what she's "totally agreeing" to? McClellan's integrity is in question and now you can add Nancy's!

  2. Has she read McClellan's book?

    Comment by Joe — May 28, 2008 @ 6:19 pm

  3. How would Pelosi know whether what McClellan is saying is true or not? Was she a White House staffer too?

  4. Nancy Pelosi is so pathetic. If I were a democrat, I would change parties !!! In fact, I DID change parties!!! Too many wacked out Pelosis on that side of the aisle. And if she can't tell that McClellan sold his soul for a dollar, shame on her. But intelligence has never been her strong suit!!

    Comment by Judy — May 28, 2008 @ 6:21 pm

  5. "Totally agree"

    You're not leaving yourself much wiggle room Nancy. Before you "totally agree" with someone, might it be wise to read in totality what you are agreeing to? And people think Bush is slow and dumb? Puhlease!

  6. Attack the messenger when you cannot challenge the message.

    You fools who voted for Bush should be ashamed of yourselves. Shame on Scott for not coming forward or quitting when it meant something. He's a greedy coward.

  7. Well I have a bad case of hyper-stress disorder watching you Democrats destroy everything this country stands for. The perverted Democratic leadership is Pelosi and is my reason seen that forecasts a China-like earthquake that will wrought California and throw our country into chaos and anarchy. What do you think of that !?

    Comment by C GOTTWERTH — May 28, 2008 @ 6:24 pm

  8. I agree with Nancy Pelosi, Who ever didn't realize we were sold a bunch of goods on the war in Iraq is ignorant and in la la land. Wait until years later when inflation hit all time highs because we're still trying to pay back borrowed money for this ludicrous war! Hooray for Nancy Pelosi!

    Comment by Kevin — May 28, 2008 @ 6:28 pm

  9. "Democrats destroy everything this country stands for."

    Actually, Democrats have made this country everything it is and are struggling to maintain some sort of semblance to the great country we once were. It's easy to lash out at Dems now for being in control of Congress but not following through on certain promises, such as getting us out of Iraq, but the reality is that George W.(orthless) Bush screwed this country over to the utmost degree. We are now less safe, less strong and less respected throughout the world because of the policies of W.(orthless).

  12. Hey Kevin,

    We were sold the same bag of goods as every God fearing democracy in the world! It's just that Bush was the only leader with enough BALLS to take down a dangerous and America-hating dictator. It's you that is living in la la land, simpleton.

    Go buy a carbon credit and shove it up your pantywaist ass. Peace bro!

  14. With the rationale that you boys and girls are using…how can the White House call this book 'total crap' if they haven't read it? Why would Neo-Cons have a liberal as their Press Secretary?

    Once again you Cons point the finger at other people except you and your peers. Morons.

    Comment by Rick — May 28, 2008 @ 6:37 pm

  15. the 9/11 attacks happened on George Bush's watch. He was given warnings and did NOTHING. That is not opinion. That is fact. Read Richard Clarkes book. Read the 9/11 commission report. George Bush has presided over one of the most corrupt administrations in history. Even Scott McCllellan has now come forward to say that the administration lied us into a war. How any one can defend George W. Bush is beyond comprehension. Gas at $4 gallon? Trillions in debt. katrina. The mortgage crises. The list goes on - he's half way to flushing us down the toilet.

  20. After reading through these comments, it quickly becomes apparent why this country is such a mess. Everyone is so consumed with hating the "other guy" that no one can see the forest for the trees. We need some real solutions. Yes we know Bush is an idiot and a liar but the liberal democrats are no better and maybe even worse. No Bush has not caused all the problems in the world and the Pelosi/Reed defeatists have no solution either. So let's see if we can find one. They all betray us at our own border by allowing millions of illegal aliens to dictate our immigration policy. We have a massive deficit and all they can do is spend more money and export our industries. The war is bankrupting us and they import cheap laborers for Wall St. and call that "the American way". Bush has us fighting in Iraq and he can't even defend our own borders and neither can the amnesty party. We have been had by both sides. The FED is destroying America. We are the slaves of our own debt.

    Comment by Emery — May 28, 2008 @ 6:51 pm

  21. Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame should be ashamed of themselves. They think national security and foreign policy is something to smear your political opponents. They both belong in prison.

    McClellan has learned who to side with if you want to restore one's "reputation".

    Secretly tape Newt Gingrich and you're hailed a hero, secretly tape Monica and you're a dirty lousy whore.

    Pathetic.

  22. Let's get it right my liberal comrades - NEO-COMM (new communist) not neo-con is the word of the day. Go gargle at your same-sex marriage in CA while real men and women protect your sorry ass from suicide bombers.

    Comment by TWTodd — May 28, 2008 @ 6:57 pm

  23. Notice how McClellan did not make any of these disclosures when he resigned or cite any of these "facts" as reasons for his resignation. He only makes these disclosures when he starts hawking his book. I guess he figured he wouldn't get invited on John Stewart or Bill Maher if he didn't bash Bush.

  25. Sure, 9/11 happened on "Bush's watch", but we don't live in a vacuum.

    Bush had been in office less than a year on 9/11. Did these radicals only start hating us after Bush took office? Who else was given warnings and "did nothing"? I won't go so far as to put all the blame on Clinton, but blaming Bush for 9/11 is ridiculous.

  28. Some of you need to look past your LCD screens, newspapers, and radios to comprehend what you actually know. What you know is not what other people tell you in the news. Suffice it to say, no single person or group knows the true version of the past events in the Bush administration. Nobody will, not even George W. Bush.

    We are concerned with the future now. Our economy is suffering. We are spending more money overseas in Iraq than we are in our own country. In your very own America people are starving, being murdered, losing their jobs, getting ill, falling into substantial debt, losing currency value, and they are getting no relief.

    It is time we take care of ourselves at the very least, spending more in our country than abroad. It is time for someone to claim responsibility.

    How old are some of you? Can you not use real, rational arguments? Or, are you restricted to treating people worse than you would want to be treated?

    Oh, by the way, please keep your very own religion out of my government, the one that is supposed to protect ALL citizens EQUALLY.

    I've talked with Nancy Pelosi and she is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. I'd like to put you up against her so we could see what Jane can offer. You would be shot down in flames. Did you ever think that McClellen is just being honest? The press has already documented 300 plus lies from the administration about this war. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Also for Hickok, I take it you are speaking from experience about the botox leak!

    Comment by MSULiberal — May 28, 2008 @ 7:07 pm

  32. Mitch might be a rich white person, but he's not a very bright one at that. As a rich smart person, I don't want to pay for this stupid war and all of its economic and non-economic consequences.

    Any rich smart person can understand that you can't keep borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars from China to police this civil war in Iraq without having to pay the overbloated bill at some point in the future.

    In Senator Tom Coburn's (R-OK) recent op-ed "Republicans are in Denial" in the Wall Street Journal, he calls for Republicans to refuse any new spending (including on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq) until Congress eliminates wasteful spending.

    I'm not a Democrat because I care one way or the other about abortion, gay marriage, welfare or health care. I'm a Democrat because I care about taxes, and when the bill comes due from the Iraq War, as a rich smart person, I'm probably going to have to foot the majority of it, whether Democrats or Republicans control the White House or Congress. So I want to do whatever I can to get us out of blowing $3 trillion on this war or stepping into another $3 trillion war in Iran.

    Comment by TexaDem — May 28, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

  33. Hey, Nancy, how's that war thing going? You know, the one you said you'd end as soon as the RATs got control of Congress? Yeah…how's that goin' for ya?

What I'm sick of is the narcissistic, liberal "Bring home the troops, and screw Iraq!" attitude. Let's put others before ourselves.

  37. And Dick Johnson,

    How on earth would you know whether or not I'm "underworked." Good one. And for the record, the conservative cause deserves to be destroyed - it's done nothing but hold back progress in this country for far too long.

    And really, how can you ask someone to name one Bush lie with a straight face? How about WMDs in Iraq, the lie that has wasted the lives of 4,000 Americans?!

    Gas is $4 and more in many places now, must be the dims keeping their common sense promises from the last election.
    I'm not really sure if it was on the news or not about Bush forcing loans on people that signed on for way more then they could knowingly afford.
    And we all know it was Bush that caused katrina and made some to stupid to get out.

Anyone with even half-a-brain, who has been seeking the truth about these morons in the WH, knew years ago, that this entire thing was a charade! 4,000 young men & women have died — for NOTHING! When will people learn ANYTHING from the history of guerilla warfare. Vietnam? Afghanistan? Somalia? When you can't even distinguish a civilian from a mad bomber, how can you "win"? God, if you know anything about the American Revolution you should know that Washington "won" by NOT LOSING 7 years! For six years the Republicans had all three branches of government under its control - in an unprecedented way in recent memory - and abortion was never addressed. 54. If it weren't obvious from the crass invective that Mitch confuses for logic, it's obvious from his attempted response to my posting that he doesn't have an 8th grade level of reading comprehension.

    My contention about taxes isn't that I don't get to pay enough (clever use of W's line from his State of the Union address), it's that whether Republicans or Democrats are in control of government, rich people get screwed and have to pay more than everybody else. And, to limit my potential tax exposure, I'd like to get out of a misguided war in Iraq (whether a civil war or otherwise) that is forcing this country to go further into debt and inevitably increase taxes to pay for it.

    Comment by TexaDem — May 28, 2008 @ 7:29 pm

  55. MSULiberal - Too smart to join the military? Funny. So we (military personnel) are all mindless, dumb, rock-pounding thugs is what I read from that idiotic comment.

    And tell me, what is progress? Taking the money from those that have taken it upon themselves to better their lives and situation through hard work, determination and commitment and hand it over to 'poor' people that sit on the books of the US Government? Is that your idea of progress? Tell me where all those farm subsidies are going? To the little guy that you and the rest of the liberals are claiming to protect or to companies such as Riceland Foods Inc who in the past from 1995 to 2006 has received over 556 million dollars? Eh, good policy. We care…..grow up!

    "Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq's pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist." - National Ground Intelligence Center (2006)…..im sorry, looks like you are the one buying into the lie that there was never a threat from Iraq.

So besides Abortion, Welfare, Higher Taxes, and the KKK, what exactly has the democrat party done for America? I see that you are a coward also, afraid to join the military, how suprising! Surrounded!! But, like we were told at the beginning- and folks with intellect remember, and dems do not- is that we wil not ever know all the different places and events where we are getting the enemy…some are quietly mentioned…. Somalia pirates…. malaysian fanaticals, phillipine fanaticals, indonesian fanaticals, thai fanaticals, southern russian fanaticals… yes, even china has fanatical islamists… And here we have the dems trying to interfere with the success of the mission. A lie contains INTENT. Now, go look up intent, study for 8 more years at that jr college you're at, and step-off. The adults know what a lie is.

  67. Ha…. so San Fran Nan agrees huh? I haven't read the book and I'm not going to try to argue against it, but what I do know is Pelosi is a lying, scumbag partisan of questionable intellgience who is far more part of the problem than the solution.
    This ignorant tramp is the one who promised a new, open, honest Congress that would do the will of the people but delivered a hyper partisan, back room dealing, 'hide it from the people', devoid of leadership and completely inept body that has pursued legislation knowing they are in direct conflict with the American people and knowing that the legislation is bad for 'we, the people'.
    Then, of course, there's her end runs on the constitution and pursuing her own foriegn policy agenda… a crime punishable by death!

    The ridiculous notion that Congress was lied to by the Bush administration in the run up to the war shows 1 of two things; either they are far too stupid to do the jobs we've sent them to do (very likely) or they're lying. Oh, but let me guess… all the republicans hid the truth from the dems that voted to authorize the war, right? Like John Kerry who made an entire campaign out of claiming to have been lied to, but we know now that isn't true. He, like the others, voted to authorize it for policial expedience and now they undermine the effort of our troops for political expedience.

    They all suck, they're all part of the problem and until we saddle these sorry sacks of garbage with term limits (2 consecutive) we will continue to be screwed regardless of who the president is… whether the empty suited Obama or equally unattractive McCain.

  68. Correction: Insight Magazine (1999) reported that Democrat Jerry Zeifman "has filed charges before the Int'l Criminal Tribunal that threaten Bill Clinton with a war-crimes indictment." Newsmax (April 2007) reported that Jerry Zeifman was calling for Nancy Pelosi's resignation because of "unconstitutional abuse of power" for her trip to Syria.

They don't care that you are on this website sticking up for them. What they care about is complete and utter power from the TOP.

    I admit, President Bush (even though i may not like the guy, I still respect the office) isn't the greatest president, but sure as hell isn't the worst. Open a non-government history book and start reading about other presidents through history and you will realize that these men were never perfect, made stupid choices, and tough decisions.

    So Ike, I can't wait until we have this "unified" government that you are oh so willing to help usher in. Hope you didn't enjoy your freedoms, your chances to better your life and the ability to pay, with your own hard-earned money through hard work……those will all be of the past under the ObamaNation.

The Iraq War is still unnecessary. And, just for specifics and your curiosity, I believe we have to stay and stabilize the region in some form and I don't believe we can get out in the way Obama and Clinton describe. 126. Hey Ben ..

    Nice try. And I will grant you that the Repubs may lose more ground this Fall. That's because the Repubs have become the Dimorats, and the 'Rats have become Socialists. The Repubs (I'm one .. but not for much longer if they don't "get it") have fled from being the once-Conservative Party and are now trying to out-give the 'Rats. So, the Republican leadership truly needs to change.

    HOWEVER .. you should be very careful about wishing that the 'Rats gain more control. I am not so thrilled about our Liberal candidate, McCain, but I *DO* know that the 'Dims gaining more control of Congress will signal the demise of the 'Rat Party, as evidenced by their complete cluelessness/incompetence/lowest-approval-ratings-in-history. And that might be a best-case scenario for this election! If we can just survive those four years as a Republic. And that's a serious *IF*!

  130. From fallen Hero Mark Daily (please look him up):
    Why I Joined: This question has been asked of me so many times in so many different contexts that I thought it would be best if I wrote my reasons for joining the Army on my page for all to see. First, the more accurate question is why I volunteered to go to Iraq. After all, I joined the Army a week after we declared war on Saddam's government with the intention of going to Iraq. Now, after years of training and preparation, I am finally here. Much has changed in the last three years. The criminal Ba'ath regime has been replaced by an insurgency fueled by Iraq's neighbors who hope to partition Iraq for their own ends. This is coupled with the ever present transnational militant Islamist movement which has seized upon Iraq as the greatest way to kill Americans, along with anyone else they happen to be standing near. What was once a paralyzed state of fear is now the staging ground for one of the largest transformations of power and ideology the Middle East has experienced since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Thanks to Iran, Syria, and other enlightened local actors, this transformation will be plagued by interregional hatred and genocide. And I am now in the center of this. Is this why I joined? Yes. Much has been said about America's intentions in overthrowing Saddam Hussein and seeking to establish a new state based upon political representation and individual rights. Many have framed the paradigm through which they view the conflict around one-word explanations such as "oil" or "terrorism," favoring the one which best serves their political persuasion. I did the same thing, and anyone who knew me before I joined knows that I am quite aware and at times sympathetic to the arguments against the war in Iraq. If you think the only way a person could bring themselves to volunteer for this war is through sheer desperation or blind obedience then consider me the exception (though there are countless like me). I joined the fight because it occurred to me that many modern day "humanists" who claim to possess a genuine concern for human beings throughout the world are in fact quite content to allow their fellow "global citizens" to suffer under the most hideous state apparatuses and conditions. Their excuses used to be my excuses. When asked why we shouldn't confront the Ba'ath party, the Taliban or the various other tyrannies throughout this world, my answers would allude to vague notions of cultural tolerance (forcing women to wear a veil and stay indoors is such a quaint cultural tradition), the sanctity of national sovereignty (how eager we internationalists are to throw up borders to defend dictatorships!) or even a creeping suspicion of America's intentions. When all else failed, I would retreat to my fragile moral ecosystem that years of living in peace and liberty had provided me. I would write off war because civilian casualties were guaranteed, or temporary alliances with illiberal forces would be made, or tank fuel was toxic for the environment. My fellow "humanists" and I would relish contently in our self righteous declaration of opposition against all military campaigns against dictatorships, congratulating one another for refusing to taint that aforementioned fragile moral ecosystem that many still cradle with all the revolutionary tenacity of the members of Rage Against the Machine and Greenday. Others would point to America's historical support of Saddam Hussein, sighting it as hypocritical that we would now vilify him as a thug and a tyrant. Upon explaining that we did so to ward off the fiercely Islamist Iran, which was correctly identified as the greater threat at the time, eyes are rolled and hypocrisy is declared. Forgetting that America sided with Stalin to defeat Hitler, who was promptly confronted once the Nazis were destroyed, America's initial engagement with Saddam and other regional actors is identified as the ultimate argument against America's moral crusade. And maybe it is. Maybe the reality of politics makes all political action inherently crude and immoral. Or maybe it is these adventures in philosophical masturbation that prevent people from ever taking any kind of effective action against men like Saddam Hussein. One thing is for certain, as disagreeable or as confusing as my decision to enter the fray may be, consider what peace vigils against genocide have accomplished lately. Consider that there are 19 year old soldiers from the Midwest who have never touched a college campus or a protest who have done more to uphold the universal legitimacy of representative government and individual rights by placing themselves between Iraqi voting lines and homicidal religious fanatics. Often times it is less about how clean your actions are and more about how pure your intentions are. So that is why I joined. In the time it took for you to read this explanation, innocent people your age have suffered under the crushing misery of tyranny. Every tool of philosophical advancement and communication that we use to develop our opinions about this war are denied to countless human beings on this planet, many of whom live under the regimes that have, in my opinion, been legitimately targeted for destruction. Some have allowed their resentment of the President to stir silent applause for setbacks in Iraq. Others have ironically decried the war because it has tied up our forces and prevented them from confronting criminal regimes in Sudan, Uganda, and elsewhere. I simply decided that the time for candid discussions of the oppressed was over, and I joined. In digesting this posting, please remember that America's commitment to overthrow Saddam Hussein and his sons existed before the current administration and would exist into our future children's lives had we not acted. Please remember that the problems that plague Iraq today were set in motion centuries ago and were up until now held back by the most cruel of cages. Don't forget that human beings have a responsibility to one another and that Americans will always have a responsibility to the oppressed. Don't overlook the obvious reasons to disagree with the war but don't cheapen the moral aspects either. Assisting a formerly oppressed population in converting their torn society into a plural, democratic one is dangerous and difficult business, especially when being attacked and sabotaged from literally every direction. So if you have anything to say to me at the end of this reading, let it at least include "Good Luck" Mark Daily

If George W. is such a fool, how come he continually runs circles around these Congressional fools, gets virtually everything out of them he ever asks for, and still has a higher approval rating than they do? Now if only he were a conservative instead of just a Bible-banging version of his dad.

  135. Amazing that Clinton (Mr.) and Kerry and a whooooolllleeeee bunch of other Liberals were making the EXACT SAME CLAIMS as the Bush administration, years before Bush was elected, when they had access to the exact same intelligence, concerning Iraq and WMD. How many months passed before the start of the war due to the foot dragging of the UN (read: China, Russia) which would have given the esteemed (and deceased) Saddam time to move of hide his WMD's.

    Add to that the FACT that the war in Iraq is totally legal based on the UN resolutions, and the treaty signed by Iraq after the end of the 1st Gulf war.

    President Bush is an American, and, for that matter, a world hero for liberating over 15 million people and for doing far more for Africa than any other country in the world combined.

    If Iraq was such a mistake, then why does al' Qaeda itself claim that Iraq IS their central front in their terror campaign?

    I defy any psuedo-intelectual, Liberal, anti-war, anti-Bush lefty to address these facts and refute them.

    Go ahead, I dare you.

Those brave individuals in the support of freedom for an entire region and the protection of our country… yet they discount the 7,000,000 dead as a result of their abortion policies in the same time period. If they REALLY cared about AMERICAN lives… let's put the same effort into ending abortion.

  140. Regardless of whether or not you agree with House Sp. Pelosi, McClellan's words do not GET him anything but attention, money, and a load of Neocon dismissal and attempted erasure of his years of service to their agenda. I may be a "disgusting slimy bastard" liberal to Turk, but at least I am intelligent enough to understand that a vote for McCain means at least another 4 years of being lied to. Because, you see, McCain, although he was an American hero, is a puppet. He has no ideas of his own. (And yes, I have done my research.) At least Obama offers his own ideas, and encourages the citizens of this country to use their voices and contribute their own. He treats me like an adult. But from reading some of the comments on this board, I understand why you would allow yourselves to be spanked, scolded, and misled into supporting an agenda and a war–you have been "raised" that way by your perpetually dishonest government-daddies. I respect those in all parties, but I implore you GOPers to just look at this from a different perspective. Do not further contribute to the systematic decimation of the ideals of this country.

That was due to reconstruction. Remember another exodus of extreme fundamentalists from the Democratic party to the Republican party in the 80s?

    I am independent, because I vote for whom I think is right, but give credit to the proper political ideology. You are wrong.

    We haven’t been attacked again since 2001. Can you convince me that we would be any safer than that if a D was in office? All of them I have heard from want to have tea parties with our enemies.

    Pelosi, her ilk, liberals and the Democrat-controlled congress are the reason we are where we are now. Carter didn’t act on the hostages in the eighties. Bill Clinton did nothing about the WTC attack in 1993, nor the USS Cole in 2000.

    Gas is $4.00 a gallon because of the whacko leftists and environmentalists who have fought to prevent drilling anywhere in the US. You need gas and oil so they had to go to other countries and get it. You really need to open your eyes, fool!

    "Gas is $4.00 a gallon because of the whacko leftists and environmentalists who have fought to prevent drilling anywhere in the US. You need gas and oil so they had to go to other countries and get it. You really need to open your eyes, fool!"

    Let's see, when we last had a Democrat in the White House who had an environmentalist for a VP, gas was $1.29…now it's $4.00 with "energy guys" in charge.

    That is such a stupid comment I don't know where to start. OK, I'll start with the fact that if Alaska were fully drilled like the numbnuts in office would like it to be, it would add 2% to the oil needs of our country.

Lord knows why anyone carried him to Washington….he just now turned 40, and clearly has not learned anything except how to be disloyal and write a book to make money for himself. America had 47,424 soldiers killed in Vietnam.
    America had 382 soldiers killed in the Persian Gulf War.
    America has lost 491 in Afghanistan..but only 296 to hostile action.
    America has lost 296 soldiers in the initial Iraq invasion to topple Saddam, to hostile action.
    America has lost 3,300 soldiers to hostile action in Iraqi Freedom from 2001 to now.
    America has lost 945 soldiers in Iraq to non hostile deaths.
    In Peacetime:
    America lost 2392 soldiers in 1980..none to hostile actions, 65% to accidents,20% illness, 10% suicide,and 5% to homicide.
    America lost 1500 soldiers in 1990, none hostile.
    The annual death rates from 2001 through now has been in the 1400 to 2000 per year range.
    The Military death rates are not greatly increased with the war in Iraq. The growth has been in wounded in action, but way below the other war actions America has fought.

    America's soldier death breakdown by race in the War against Terrorism hass been 3,000 white, 385 black, 435 Hispanic, and 200 other.

    These numbers are not pretty….but they do not paint the picture of a Quagmire or of a terrible personell loss of American lives over normal statistics for a standing Military at peace or in the theater of War Combat.

She is critical of anyone in this Administration, yet she has no problem talking with our enemies. Too bad that her passport wasn't revoked while she was talking to our enemy in Syria.
    She has compasion for others while she promise them anything to get their vote then sends us the bill. The last funding bill for our troops didn't have a dime earmarked for them, but pork was everywhere.

    Dubya/Uncle DICK causing extreme instability in the Middle East doesn't affect oil prices? Again, you are not dealing with ditto-head fellow inbred redneck Republicans here…so you're going to have to actually present sound logic, not Uncle-DICKisms.

    OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW! WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? YOUR NEWS MEDIA REFUSES TO TELL US! Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades. Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves three two major purposes of the liberal news media:

    1. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support, and:

    2. It is intended to discourage American citizens and erode their support for the war.

    3. It is intended to help the Democratic Party gain more power in the next elections. —- All the above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense web site.' _http://www.defenselink.mil/_

    I'm willing to bet that not many of the readers of this comment knows the answer. You can check for yourself, and if you DO find it, please let us know where you read it. Article I, Section 8
    lists all of the powers granted the Federal Government. There are a total of 18, and healthcare is not one of them. The 10th Ammendment states that any power not granted the Federal Government belongs to the States and the People respectivly.

Personally, I miss it terribly, but I recognize that one can not always serve under someone who you know has built their reputation on lies that have resulted in my fellow military members untold death and tragedy.

    Comment by Craig Michael Uhl — May 29, 2008 @ 12:27 am

  305. How many of you have actually read this book?

    No reason to really continue this discussion, is there?

    Of course, we all know what it takes to sell books to liberals: Lies. Nobody really wants to hear the truth because it's "boring". For example, how much have we heard in the so called "main stream media" about the Iraq war lately? Hardly anything, right? Why is that? I KNOW! I KNOW! It's because we're WINNING.

    All you liberals have is "Iraq war this" and "Iraq war" that. That's IT. And it's sad, really, because you worry so much about the oppressed people in Rhwanda or Bosnia or whatever the cause celebre' of the moment is but you sure as heck don't seem to care much about Iraqi's, you know, considering they were just as oppressed as anyone else you can think of. Nope, doesn't matter when it comes to Iraqi's because it's all about hating G W Bush. The funny thing about your hatred is that it simply proves he was right. Really, who wants a liberal to agree with them?

    And Condi? Wow…sheer brilliance…I mean, the way she stands up to Uncle Dick and does the right thing…well, she's never stood up to Uncle Dick or done the right thing….but…she's BLACK! And that proves that the Repubs aren't the dumb rednecks we thought they were!

    What I find funny is that this Administration is wasting any time at all denying this fact.

    Who cares, and Pelosi, even funnier, she got her job saying she'd defend the Administration against such charges if it came to blows.

    They're all lying. The rule of thumb low job is a sleezy car dealer, followed by lower yet ambulance chasing lawyers, and finally the very bottom of the heap are politicians who solicit sex in public bathrooms.

  336. A simple Google search on the House’s Report “The Iraqi WMD Challenge — Myths and Reality dated February 10, 1998” will serve to add perspective to the sense of the U.S. House of Representative’s view for the need of an Iraq War Resolution.

    It was not a war that should have needed "selling" to begin with although the Bolshevik wing of the Democratic Party later saw an opening to go on a truffle hunt to root out votes with another “peace movement.”

    One might suspect that, based on the timing of the book, McClellan “saw his opportunity and took it” to come up with a National Enquirer quality expose that would offer him an immediate financial return on his effort. Secondarily, a person could likely wager successfully that McClellan would surface in some mid-level federal job with the proposed Ibn Obama administration if such a disaster came to fruition,

    Surely McClellan will feel more at home with the opportunity Obama affords the nation for a second Jimmy Carter term. The democrats didn't learn their lesson after the first one evidently although the nation learned the hard way about hiring the bumbling and inept failure that gave us a modern Iran in all its Islamic theocratic splendor. Even the Kerry crowd had enough sense to insult Carter by sitting him next to Michael Moore in the presidential dunce box at the last democratic convention. Based on what he has been doing lately, they should seat Carter under the next convention site.

If this book were favorable to Bush, and showed him in a good light, Nancy would be calling the book a biased piece of propaganda garbage suitable only for lining bird cages! Not only that — she would also most likely be calling for a congressional investigation into the life and times of the author so that sufficient dirt could be dug up (or concocted) on him that would allow her highness to conduct her character assasination campaign. Could Nancy have possibly made herself look like anymore of a hypocrite in this matter than she really is?!? I don't think so! Wasn't speaker Pelosi promising to END the war in Iraq if only you'd elect a Democratic majority? Heck, wasn't speaker Pelosi FOR the war before it became politically expedient for her to oppose it? I can provide the quotes if you like, as well as quotes from Bill and Hill, AlGore, and of course Mr. Flip Flopper himself.

    FACT is the POTUS has NOTHING to do with the high gas prices. FACT is EVERY distinguished Dem at the time SUPPORTED invading Iraq. FACT is Bill Clinton made regime change in Iraq the official policy of the United States. FACT is Billy attacked Iraq himself TWICE and had a full invasion plan in place.

    Hillary was a U.S. Senator privy to a LOT of information on the subject. Her husband had JUST SPENT 8 YEARS as President and -should- have known more about the situation than anyone other than the current sitting President.

    So…did the Bush decision to invade Iraq draw the Ire of Bill Clinton? Quite the contrary. Bubba PRAISED the decision of his political rival. Multiple times. So did Hillary.

    Think about that for a second. Do you think for one second a Clinton would praise the actions of a Bush if they didn't agree wholeheartedly with said decision? As I said, at the time, Bill was probably the 2nd most informed man on earth as to the situation in Iraq. His praising a HATED political rival was based on his knowledge of the situation.

    It was politically expedient for Hill to agree at the time as the populace was for it at the time. Not politically expedient for Bill, though. He sat in that chair and KNEW how difficult a decision it was. He praised Bush for having the balls to do what he WANTED to do, but couldn't because he had a wife entering the public forum.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Anyone who thinks Barak Obama is going to make it any better is pipe dreaming.
    He is making the same promises and they are delighted about it. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barak Obama will take us all to Hell in a handbasket. They promise and lie and serve us the poison Koolaid. After voting for them to end the war and fix Washington we are in worse condition than we were before.
    Imagine being a trucker trying to make a living, it has gone from bad to worse.
    I would like to see Hillary Clinton be given a chance, I sincerely believe she will sort it out.

    Barak Obama just like Mrs Pelosi is another loser.

  344. The administration tailored intelligence on Iraq to fit their desire to invade that country. Iraq had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11. That was Osama Bin Laden, remember him? The Iraq invasion has been a total distraction for our country in fighting terrorism with disasterous results. Bush has actually set our country back and it will take many years to undo the damage. A good first step would be for our country to finally begin using facts before taking military action. Military action has its uses if used intelligently, which hasn't been the case thus far.

  345. These neocons never use common sense and reason to draw a conclusion by looking at simple facts. The country has the largest debt ever. The value of the dollar is going down by the day. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being spent on an unnecessary war. Food and gas prices have skyrocketed. Homeowners have no equity left in their properties. 19 guys attacked the country while the president was reading a children's book upside down… Just admit that the current administration policies have taken the country backwards… All that because the head of the country goes by a religious hunch instead of using his brain…

  346. "I would like to see Hillary Clinton be given a chance, I sincerely believe she will sort it out."

    Sort WHAT out? The POTUS has VERY little control over anything. True Power lies in Congress, not in the Oval office. The White House needs to be occupied by a statesman first and foremost. Someone who can relate to the American public. Bill handled that job with his charisma until the blue dress. Dubya has done it with is down home charm. Reagan REALLY mastered it, being the actor he was.

    Obama is trying, but he has zero credibility. None. Nothing to hang his hat on. Not a single issue he can say "I was instrumental in that". His voting record is as THE most liberal senator in Congress. His message is "change". That's it. No detailed plans on HOW or WHAT needs to change. Nothing more than reading the polls and saying the war needs to end, we need better health care, we need to take care of our Veterans etc. If he TRULY believed these things he'd be digging in as a Congressman and working to bring bills to the floor, not running for POTUS who has virtually NO say in such issues.

    If anyone believes for one second that the troops would be brought home with an Obama Presidency you are delusional. The "war" ended a LONG time ago. Within weeks of invasion, actually. What we are doing now can NOT be pulled.

    Whether it's CNN or Fox News. Whether it's a "neocon" or a "wack job liberal" feeding info to you, how does your opinion mean more than someone elses?

    MOST of you are seriously mis-informed or, at least, under informed. That's clear by reading what you write. And uninformed opinion, from either side, just makes YOU look foolish.

    I even saw one person here say "yeah, I did the research" before launching into a diatribe I'd expect to see on daily Kos. That's NOT research.

    Forget the labels, the neocon/left wingnut nonsense. NOBODY fits completely into the party label even if they identify themselves with one party or the other.

    One thing we ALL are is American, and these are American problems. The sooner we leave political labels at the curb, the sooner we can get to the people's business and actually start solving said problems.

    I'm out.

Bush hasn't exactly been our most intelligent president. He has made some serious errors that have and continue to harm our country's interests. In short, his performance and the attendant results certainly merit critical review. You want to lead the country then you should shoulder responsibility for results. Quit whining. Bush got elected and made a large mess of things. It's evident for all to see. Hopefully, this tendency to engage in incessant denial will pass this November.

    "MR. McCLELLAN: Well, why, all of a sudden, if he (Richard Clarke) had all these grave concerns, did he not raise these sooner? This is one-and-a-half years after he left the administration. And now, all of a sudden, he’s raising these grave concerns that he claims he had. And I think you have to look at some of the facts. One, he is bringing this up in the heat of a presidential campaign. He has written a book and he certainly wants to go out there and promote that book."

    PS for Anna #393: I know it's difficult to understand for a moonbat who thinks the world revolves around her and her fellow travelers, but The Hill probably doesn't employ someone to police comments 24×7.

I will reiterate what just happened because you don't seem to grasp it. THE GUY WHO HAS BEEN LYING TO YOU ON BEHALF OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION FOR SEVERAL YEARS JUST CAME OUT AND ADMITTED HE WAS LYING TO YOU. Do you remember what Teddy Roosevelt said? 370. Listen - the Bush presidency is one of the most bashed in history.

    1. Once they got over 9/11, the MSM was out to flex it's muscle and show it can direct attitudes, not report the news. And with the staffers being overwhelmingly left, it wasn't going to be good for the Bush Administration.
    2. We conservatives have to realize that the starting point with Liberals/MSM is that there is nothing we can do so we have to go around them to get our message straight to the people, and quit acting like victims.
    3. Liberals - to you who say we shouldn't have gone to war in Iraq - your 'bow at the alter' UN did NOTHING when Saddam used gas to take out a Kurdish village in 1988. You're the party of Amnesty Internatioal, who likes to spout statistics about torture around the world, but you liberals aren't willing to do anything about it! But when a Republican actually does something about this - well then, it's not enough, you complain and critize. Also, when we went in, there were up to 800,000 bodies found in mass graves. THE ONLY OTHER ALTERNATIVE WAS TO LEAVE SADDAM IN PLACE TO ADD TO THOSE MASS GRAVES. Oh, but the bleeding hearts in America can't be bothered by the suffering of those around the world. They're too busy creating dependency here in America that sucks the spirit out of people.
    4. The mortgage crisis - in my area in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, 30%+ of the foreclorsures were cheats trying to make a buck, not on people who simply didn't pay their bills. Also - you bleeding hearts set people up for failure because you pushed legislation to give money to people who couldn't afford it, to push the 'American dream' of homeownership on people who hadn't earned it.
    5. $4/gallon for gas? Powerline Blog had it last week - Democrats pulled Oil Executives in front of them last week in congressional hearings, only to be schooled by the Executives. They stated that in order to drop the cost of oil, there needs to be more competition, more domestic drilling. While the Democrats are complaining about high costs of oil, their environmentalist wacko's have prevented any growth, in fact halted, domestic exploration of oil reserves. See the hypocrisy here?!!! They've been beholden to the Sierra Club who is laughing all the way to the bank because they succeeded in doing what could never be passed in legistlation, which is stop the growth of the SUV. Well - I protested and bought one anyway - the Saturn Outlook which gets 26 mph on the highway.

    A pox on the liberals - phooey on the new tone that never was.

    Obama/Pelosi state we aren't more secure. Well, traitors - where has been the last attack on American soil since 9/11? Never let the facts get in the way of your arguments!!!!

  371. I absolutely love how the liberals eat this up. If McClellan had written a book discussing George W. Bush's favorable qualities and acheivements, the liberals would have discarded it with something to the effect of, "Oh, well, he's biased, he's just trying to defend his former boss." Yet because the book bashes Bush, they accept it as unshakable fact with something to the effect of, "McClellan would know. He was there." It's just another example of the double standard that is the liberal philosophy.

  372. to Dan M:

    The Bush presidency a failure. Just to let you know, during this presidency, I purchased the nicest house I've ever owned (fixed interest rate), I earned two national sales awards at my company, my family has never had it so good, two dictatorships have been taken down - neither of which you would be allowed to do the same thing if you lived under those totalitarian regimes, in fact multiple allies have served, and died with our military. We haven't been attacked domestically in 7 years, we haven't been attacked in any American interests outside of Iraq in over 5 years. We've had as many quarters of straight econmic growth as Clinton had, once a Republican congress was elected that held down the rate of government growth.

    Where's the failure? Oh yeah, I'm a rich, white Republican who doesn't understand the little people. One thing you don't know is that I lived for 7 years (my first 7) in public housing on welfare, and all it did was break up my family. Creating dependency doesn't work. Earning your way in this world does.

And which part about what i said is hateful, you're the one in the "I hate that idiot W crowd". Just like a well trained lib, hate and spew propaganda and then blame the opposition for being hateful, it's the perfect trick. I don't hate you, I just know you're wrong. 395. I find it a bit fishy that all of the headlines I'm reading about McClellan's book all speak about things that were heated media topics over the course of Bush's tenure in office.

    Maybe the book actually gets more detailed, but it seems really convenient that McClellan is taking published accounts of Bush hating stories and saying, "Yep, I agree. And this is coming from a guy who was there, so it must be true".

    There are lots of reasons I'm upset with Bush, and several reasons that I like him, but this book isn't going to change my opinion. It just seems like McClellan is miffed at Bush for whatever came between them and knows this is going to sell.

    Well, I'm not buying.

Actually, it's not all that bad a deal for men. That said, I still believe we should fight fundamentalist Islam and it's supporters. So far we have gotten non-denial denials, Personal attacks on McClellan and just now Rice's unbelievable story telling. For example, she said why would the international community maintain sanctions against Iraq if they knew that Hussein was not engaged in developing a WMD program. Well if you remember they weren't. The US failed to get an agreement to continue the sanctions and had Bush not invaded the sanctions would have been lifted within a few months. This is classic Rice, classic Bush, classic deception.

    My views: the War is the most tragic mistake an Administration has made since the Viet Nam war(i am a veteran). Bush/cheney took us to war under false pretenses and have refused to honest with the american people. Impeachment would not be enough justice for what they have done.
    And for you that claim to be "consertive" this administration has altered its definition. None of the Goldwater principles have been upheld e.g. spending, governmental interference in our lives,

  423. Lets see the enemy of the USA sends hundreds of warnings and threats every day and when every one of them is a lie except for the last one we are supposed to be culpable? riiight…

    The war in Iraq started when Iraq captured a USA ally Kuwait and in accordance with it's treaty obligations the USA rescued that country from the Iraqi army occupation. Since the USA did not capture that country but instead attempted to hold them at bay from neighboring countries in an attempt to reduce the destruction for over ten years while Husein dodged and ducked in his own country. In the end the surrounding countries Saudi Arabia Turkei Jordan said we have too much internal trouble to allow you to maintain your armies here and you must go. So the USA entered Iraq to continue the job and stop the threat of Husein. The 911 attacks caused the USA to recognize the reality that eventually a static defense will be breached and damage will get through.

    The USA has been like a man in a big house that ignores the attacks of some child using nerf balls knowing they cannot be hurt, until the day that same child learns to soak those nerf balls in something flamable and light them on fire before throwing them at his house.

    Just because the threats have been poorly executed most of the time does not mean they were not threats.

    George W. Bush is not to blame for the USA going into Iraq, Iraq is to blame for the USA going into Iraq. If you want to talk about intel and how the terrorists require curbing before they get the base they have named themselves after go ahead but never forget that the war in Iraq was not about terrorism until they tried to take the country while it was under USA control. Under international law the USA has the legal requirement to protect the people it takes control of. Unless you want to give Iraq to the terrorists you have to establish a government capable of stopping them before leaving or that is exactly what will happen.

  432. To GET REAL,

    Democrats are very, very sore because of their fearless leader "Slick Willy" and the embarrassment he cause them and our nation. This is all about revenge.

    Also, spending is not more than what we spend internally. Actually we are spending much less than we did during many other times in history even including the war and total defense spending.

    Even considering the military budget and war spending together, however, total U.S. expenditures remain modest compared to historical levels in wartime. Shortly before the Vietnam War, in 1962, defense spending alone tallied 9.3 percent of GDP. During World War II expenditures were higher still; in 1944 the defense budget peaked at 37.8 percent of GDP. Even after recent increases, defense spending today comes to about 3.7 percent of GDP—and the combined total, even after including both war-spending supplements and “Global War on Terror” expenditures, comes to 6.2 percent of GDP. Still, today’s spending represents an increase since before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, when defense spending tallied roughly 3 percent of GDP.

We have been fighting the war on poverty for over 30 years, but the situation is worse. If you are aware and have at least minimal brain function you will be able to easily deduce from the evidence that the policies, deception, moral failings, and "good-old-boy" politics of the White House in the lat seven years have driven this country to the brink of fascism. We are not safer. Just because there has not been an attack since 9-11 does not mean we are safer. You have to look at the more than 200 years before that and see how often we were attacked before then. You also have to look at the evidence of Terrorist cells developing strength and getting recruits because of the pathetic lack of leadership and religious dogma put forth by George Bush and Cheney. How about letting go of the party line, and reacting with hate and prejudice and engage your intellect for a change.

If I had my say it would be "OK the world can leave us alone and we will leave you alone. We will use our own energy, food, and cars"! Watch the response you get then, we will be called everything under the sun, and the liberals in this country will agree with them then too. There are volumes of historical documents, probes, facts, news articles, opinions etc. that prove most or all of this crap is false. If you want to blame Bush, you must also blame the entire world intellegence community as well as your beloved bubba Clinton. Bush simply had the stones to do something about the cancer in the middle east. Someday, even you morons will thank him. McC is simply a fool to think that given the vast amount of actual evidence to the contrary, only you and those like you will buy, read and believe his book. 489. While WMD was a large point for the war, there are various other reasons. 1) a continuing breaking of cease-fire by Saddam. 2) attacks on aircraft in no-fly zones. 3) incomplete disclosure by Saddam of weapons in stock. 4) constant breaking of several UN resolutions, time and again. 5) even if WMD stockpiles were not found, the technology existed to create them, and Saddam was not content on "having only a sword while neighbors had a gun." 6) it was well known that Saddam's regime supported terrorism and terror organizations, including Al Qaeda.

    You name the politician or insider… John Kerry, Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, Ted Kennedy, the Brits, the French, the Germans, the UN… even Ms Pelosi herself… they are all ON RECORD as saying/believing Saddam has/had WMD and would be in a position to use them AGAIN (he already did, during the Iran-Iraq war). Clinton said it again AFTER the war began, while on a visit to Portugal. He believed Saddam had WMD, and posed a real threat to the region. One should not forget the strike by Israel on Saddam's French-built nuclear plant in 1981. It was estimated that Saddam was only a few years from a nuclear bomb if the Israeli's had not destroyed the plant.

    So, what did we find out after the war began? 1) the UN-Saddam "oil for food" scandal was unearthed. 2) a former Iraqi general maintains that stockpiled of WMD were shipped out to Syria on commercial trucks and airliners prior to the beginning of the war. 3) Most important… that the Iraqi people wanted Saddam gone, and managed to vote freely in elections for the first time in decades. And if that doesn't mean anything to anyone, nothing ever will.

  510. Watching the Con/Lib hate pingponging is mind numbing. While I support my president, regardless of who it is, I still think mistakes were made. That being said, it's not about what was done, but WHAT WE DO NOW. Not one of the liberals has come forward with a genuine workable solution. It's just crying. Liberals got control of the House and have done NOTHING but whine about the past. No solutions, no change. We can't leave Iraq now, it's just not possible. We'll throw those people to the warlord wolves if we do. It will take years to withdraw, even if we stopped fighting now. Gas prices? They rise while the oil companies make record profits…where's the rage? Let's be realistic people. Nobody's protesting outside the oil company's front doors. I wonder why. Most of you are "status-quo," don't rock the boat, but you still have your "freedom of speech" to fall back on, how's all that talking working out? How is all the rhetoric improving the country?

    No matter what you believe, know this…The government (regardless of who's in charge) will lie to you, always. Every politician is a self-serving con-man with a personal agenda. Not one has come forward, in the present age, and dedicated his life in the service of the people. Shame on you if you believe them. The press is also lying to you, the fact that newspapers publish op-ed pieces is PROOF that they're trying to sway opinion. Report the facts, let us make our own decisions.

    Hate Bush? Do something about it besides cry. Motivate. Don't wait for someone else to come along and do it. Change will not happen with words. Until you do something besides complain, you'll never have a life of consequence.

    Comment by John — May 29, 2008 @ 2:35 pm

  530. Steve r,

    President Bush(Senior) started the Somali operation as a humanitarian mission to prevent a disaster. When President Clinton took office he changed the mission into nation building by replacing the Adid government with a US installed government. It was not a mess until President Clinton changed the mission and did not provide the proper military strategy and build-up to accomplish the mission. President Clinton tried to fight a guerilla war with the wrong tactics and without a definition of victory or how to achieve victory. Please do not blindly accuse leaders of failure or wrong decisions until you look at all the facts. Example with Carter and Desert One. The plan was sound and executed many times but a freak sandstorm appeared and grounded the helios and C-130s. Is Carter a military idiot or just (in this case) a victim of a unforseen weather event? Possibly if he would have been more forceful after the seizure of the US Embassy he would have faired better in the history books. All I ask is that you think logically rather than with emotions and hyperbole.

He's a hack and he's being perpetuated by a media with an agenda. And I guarantee he'll be offering no political bombshells in his "memoirs." This, like all other political insider books will soon be swept under the rug where they're useful. But in reply to John, just because it's in print and "describes" the guy in charge, doesn't lend credence to it's existence. There are plenty of other fictions in print that are as easily dismissed. Don't be so quick to jump on any printed bandwagon.

  532. The beauty of this is that this book did not come from a Lib, or Dem or whatever. It came from a Republican from a Republican administration. So the Cons cant use the partisan politics argument, so now it must be that he is disgruntled LOL. It cant be because he was discusted about what happened can it?

    So pathetic how blind the conservatives in here are. No matter how many things come out about how pathetic and deceitful this administration is, you will continue to ridicule anyone who even dares to criticize the administration. whether its a Dem, McCain, Scott. How much more evidence do you all need the Bush administration is a disastor on so many levels its not even funny. Its even past being a Rebublican thing.. now its just down right pathetic on any level.

    And just to clear up a few misconceptions i see some wacky Cons in here stating. Just a reminder that Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 and he barely won in 2004 ( which is sad because "war time presidents usually win big). So there was hardly a big mandate on conservatism.

    You all know that this election coming up is going to a bloodbath for the Cons, and well deservedSadly in all the wars the US has fought over time, for the IRAQ war to be the longest one is a testament to how poorly we prepared for it, how poorly our intelligence was, and how we are now stuck. But go ahead and keep on defending it.

    All books are someone's opinion and we should not blindly beleive eveything in them. Many books have been written about Clinton, but majority of contents may not be true. (Even though I am not a big fan of Pres. Clinton). When reading a book you must take into account who wrote it and what their potential spin is or is not. Books are not for elitist's only, there are some fine works out there written by both left and right wingers. Emotions and stupidity dominate the media well to often these days…Just take the time to read, digest, then form an opinion. America's biggist liability these days is stupidity and ignorance and they are very expensive debts.

    "Less respected" says who? We are now "less respected" by terrorists and Islamo-fascist states that Obama wants to sing kumbaya with. Bush has kept them on the run and that's how it should be. We are still very much respected considering that America is still the land of opportunity as seen by world. We have people from all over wanting to take part in the American dream. 544. After six unfettered years of conservative rule, we work harder for less, with little or no security or opportunity to claim even a small piece of the American dream. We worry about our health because we have no healthcare, we worry about our food because it’s not properly regulated and we worry about our future because there is no security in working a job anymore. We worry about our children because a good education is harder and harder to come by and we worry about our parents because they don’t have security in retirement. This is what conservatism has wrought (rot?) and why an overwhelming majority of Americans say we are on the wrong track. Sure, the current crop of Republicans will attempt to eek out enough votes by pandering to religious fundamentalists and preying upon the fears they’ve instilled in voters of “the others” be they Mexican immigrants, Muslims or gays, but ultimately they will lose because there simply aren’t enough simple minded people that haven’t been clued into the fact that the words Republicans utter are simply words without meaning, and while words may be cheap, the actions, policies and experiments in conservatism that we have seen implemented, speak volumes. We can hear you now, we just don’t want what your sellin’ anymore.

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 ½ year high;

    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

    3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in The New Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet;

    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate
    (stock and mu tual fund losses);

    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

    6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

  567. What a surprise that Pelosi agrees with Scott McNitWit on a book that was written for the sole purpose of making money. It takes him 2 years to come out with this nonsense (nothing ever mentioned before, ever), and to top it all off what a time to release the book for maximum profits.
    Pelosi should be more concerned with actually doing something for the country instead of blaming others for her and her joke-party's non-actions in Congress. Honestly, what have the Dem's done since winning the majority? Zilch. They got in by blaming others for the nations troubles and spreading fear and lies, and still do so that their zombie followers are distracted from the truth.
    It's time for true Americans to wake up and realize that socialism (sorry, "liberalism" - my bad) cannot and will not work for this country. If you want to have bigger government, more taxes, less jobs, higher gas prices (how much has gas gone up since the dems took over?) and less freedom in your life, then by all means vote Obama. We will see what a shambles this country is in after four years if he wins. You can bet on it.

  568. I feel sorry for you right wingers here. after the November elections democrats will have a sizable majority in both houses and will also win the presidency. After that we will be able to appoint progressives to the courts. This is mostly due to Sshrub, Turd Blossom, and the other insane neocons who sent us to occupy a foreign country and gave us our insane economic policy.

    Comment by steve r — May 29, 2008 @ 4:32 pm

  569. One final final time Steve, what, in specifics, is this new progressive movement going to accomplish? Why can't you answer the question? Because if it's to ignore the will of the silent majority and pander to the minority in America then I think people have the right to know who they are voting for. It is a FACT that Obama's campaign has said on multiple occassions to people how Obama makes them feel instead of discussing his policies. Liberals always want to invoke feelings rather than logic. I'm sure you won't answer this and if you do, somewhere within the first five senteces you will refer to Bush. Your turn.

  570. Steve r,

    Unfortunately that 18 cents usually doesn't go to highways and bridges….It usually goes to some other pet project just like the states settlement with Tobacco companies. never went to prevent smoking programs. There is no accoun tability on where the money goes. The people can use the 18 cents more wisely then the government. The government is stupid and wasteful and government has more money then is needed to keep the roads in good shape.

  572. I'm confused as to your silent majority and pander to the minority question? In my opinion, the majority of the people are going to vote democratic. And I have to give it to you.your right. A majority(actually a minority since Gore actually won the popular vote) said they voted for Bush cause they felt comfortable having a beer with him. Course I'm sure during the beer they would be discussing policy, like 'your for us or agin us. Nothing emotional there

  574. Of course the real benefit to a Democrat winning in November is the cop outs they get. Again, nothing will change because power corrupts. However, the liberal aggressives will have the luxury of saying how they're still cleaning up the previous administration's messes. How they can't do anything until that's done. Then…4 years later they'll win again but the seat count in the House will change against them and they'll have the luxury of saying that it's the Republicans in the House interfering with their attempts to invoke change. Excuses, excuses no change, not ever, not possible. This argument also works against the Republicans in 8 years.

  575. Does anyone remeber that the Democrats in the House and Senate also voted for the tax cuts to preclude a possible recession or mild depression after 911. The economy was tetering and the Bush economic policy precluded a possible economic disaster. Again don 't just look at the facts that you like and sell your point. Bill Clinton raised taxes in the early 90's and it took a couple of years for the bite to take effect. Which resulted in a mild economic slow down in the late 90's. It was not a recession, but the tax hikes were beginning to bite business. Bottemline: Raising taxes does not benefit anyone but the politicians in Washington to figure out new ways to waste the money…….RWR

  580. In just one year . Remember the election in 2006?
    Thought you might like to read the following:
    A little over a year and a half ago:

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 ½ year high;

    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

    3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in The New Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet;

    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate
    (stock and mu tual fund losses);

    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

    6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

    America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

  584. HAHAH i love it how EVERYONE bashes on me and thinks im a meth addict, or dealer. NO I personaly will pay people to catch meth makers, heroine makers, all those "MAN MADE DRUGS" should be GONE. Now if you really want to talk you would know the Government made meth, The government made heroine, the government made ALL THE OPIATES. Only one drug i know that was accidently made was LSD and that was made for the purpose of a TRUTH drug FOR THE GOVERNMENT. GET your FACTS straight, THE only drug that should be legal should be marijuana. MARIJUANA has no MAN MADE chemicals in it, and dont feed me that BS that "ooo they use harmfull chemicals to grow marijuana". Marijuana cultivists use the SAME chemicals as people who grow TOMATOES!

    And you wanna talk about the murder rate? If marijuana was legal, less money would be used to push the eradication of marijuana and could use it for meth labs across your "liberals are socialists" town. People are killing each other because of HARD drugs like meth, heroine, crack, cocain, extasy, Special K, and ALL OF THESE were first introduced from the government EXCEPT extasy (a german scientist accidently found that one). Im 20 years old and I do not want to grow up in a country that puts MORE PEOPLE IN PRISON THEN COLLEGE. (yea those facts are true)

    i love it how you cant even put your REAL name in the box, atleast i STAND for my words spoken from my mouth, instead of hiding behind a stupid "liberals are socialists" name.

  585. I think that affirmative action has done so much for our gerat countrey. It has given uneducated morons a step over more qualified persons. Look what it has done for Obama and Michelle. Certainly it propelled Nancy Pelosi to her position. She got where she is because she is a minority. Thank God for that. If it was not for affirmative action we might have qualified and intelligent white middle class, middle age men in these positions. Can you imagine how disaterous that would be. God the thought scares me. Go on Obama we need our first affirmative action president. You might go down in history as great a president as Carter. Keep up the good work Nancy.

  589. RIchard Glarke on GWB:
    "I find it outrageous that the president is running for re-election on the grounds that he's done such great things about terrorism," Clarke said in a "60 Minutes" interview on the book with CBS. "He ignored it. He ignored terrorism for months, when maybe we could have done something to stop 9/11. Maybe, we'll never know."

    Former US Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill has provided the grist for an unflattering tell-all book about the Bush White House called "The Price of Loyalty". … Mr O'Neill said President Bush was disengaged, "a blind man in a room full of deaf people," and said the administration was hatching plans to invade Iraq from the day Mr Bush entered office.

  591. Gandalff, you are entirely correct. The current Iraq war was technically a resumption of hostilities due to the terms and conditions of the first gulf war being violated numerous times by Iraq. Iraq was even firing on our planes which partolled the agreed to no-fly zone. "Bush Lied People Died" what a crock of liberal crap. Our problem is that we aggressively pursued the war and then applied liberal "feel good" principles to the peace time. Remember "hearts and minds" and the really good one "kinder gentler war". And we wonder why those in the middle east think we are wimps.

  595. There are two types of people that run for public office. Statesmen and Politicians.
    The Statesman goes in to do a job FOR you, the Politician goes in to do a job ON you.
    A Politician by his very nature will always fall into 4 catagories - S H I T
    He's Schizophrenic, Hypocritical, Inconsistant Thief.
    They go ballistic on that last one, what do you mean calling me a thief?
    All you have to do is look at the tax laws they have written.
    The only difference between a thief and a politician is that a politician is salaried plus commission, a thief works strictly on commission.

  597. McClelan was, and is, a nothing. His parents are fringe third-party nutjobs who got nowhere. Who was the White House Press Secretary in the lead-up to the war in Iraq, and who was WHPS when the war started? Not McClelan. It was his BOSS, Ari Fleischer. McClelan was only the Deputy WHPS then, and only got Ari's job later in the year. McClelan was not privy to any meeting with security or intelligence officials, because that was not his role. Any description by McClelan as to what might have happened or been said in meetings of this sort is nothing but pure speculation and conjecture by McClelan.

    Interesting that a Bush-bashing diatribe causes all the networks to froth over getting McClelan on the set. An ABC reporter, on air, asks that the smile on his face be excused, he's so excited about the book. But where were the networks when Ari Fleischer's book came out? Or CIA director George Tenent, a hold-over from Clinton's administration, and his book? No one frothed over their books… because they spoke kindly about Bush! They didn't fit the "needs" of the mainstream media.

    Pelosi thinks this book is all true, Obama echoes those sentiments. Interesting that even the New York Times, not at all in the Bush camp, reviewed McClelan's book on page 14, and not on page 1… and the review was less than favorable. They call McClelan what he is, an opportunist at best.

    Why now? Isn't it obvious? It's an election year, the fight is on, and anyone who doesn't want a Republican in the WH after Bush is bound to come out with barrels blazing. Who better to help McClelan out than George Soros himself? The money trail leads back directly to him. McClelan's publisher, PublicAffairs Books, is a subsidiary of Perseus, which is a Soros spinoff. As is always said time and again, "follow the money." McClelan claims he'll most likely vote for Obama… and Soros is lining Obama's pockets as well. Follow the money…
