DAY'S END ROUNDUP

@ 6:59 pm by Andy Barr

Mike Huckabee joking about Barack Obama getting shot at outrages bloggers. Speculation that John Edwards will be Obama’s Attorney General and Ron Paul’s uncompassionate vote on Myanmar also have bloggers talking going into the weekend.

Huckabee is no longer VP material after the joke, writes Allahpundit. The bloggers thinks the comment will be enough of an excuse for conservatives that have never been comfortable with Huckabee to shun him. While many bloggers expressed outrage over the joke, Smintheus at Daily Kos is more concerned that so many in the crowd laughed about shooting the Democratic nominee.

Edwards said today his name on the ticket “won’t happen” and that has prompted a lot of speculation in the blogosphere that he has been promised the Attorney General spot. MyDD’s Todd Beeton thinks Edwards would be “perfect” for a role and believes Edwards has been hinting at wanting the spot for some time. Edwards was too anti-corporate in his campaign rhetoric to be president, but he is just what liberals have want in an Attorney General, Chris Bowers writes.

And Paul is getting a tough time from bloggers for voting no to a House Resolution offering “condolences and sympathy” to Myanmar. Top of The Ticket points out the measure would have “done absolutely nothing” for anybody, but Paul still voted against it. One conservative blogger mocks Paul for being “paranoid” that the vote would be the pretext for the next war.

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.
  1. Andy, you're such a smart guy, it just seems like such a shame that you had to lead in with a sensationalized statement. Huckabee said nothing about Obama being shot at, but having a gun pointed at him. I realize that the actual joke is overwhelmingly offensive, but to make the jump from pointing a gun to shooting a gun seems beneath someone of your intelligence, and crosses the line into tabloid tactics. I appreciate your insight, but please keep it intellectually honest in the future.
