MIDDAY BLOG ROUNDUP

@ 1:03 pm by Chris Good

Conservative bloggers are boasting that John McCain has stymied his critics on judicial appointments, while liberal bloggers continue to handicap today’s Democratic primaries and take aim at Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) for not intervening on her state party’s controversial ad featuring Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Townhall.com’s Mary Katharine Ham praises McCain for avoiding hot topics like abortion and instead sticking to conservative requirements for federal judges who strictly interpret the Constitution. Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey finds that McCain distinguished himself from Barack Obama, who is failing to be “bipartisan” on this hot-button topic.

A reported leak from the Clinton campaign suggesting they anticipate losing by 15 points in North Carolina is “preposterous,” writes The Plank’s Jason Zengerle, adding that the only poll showing such a wide margin is Zogby, which liberals dispute. A big Clinton win in the state will further prolong the Democratic race, Matthew Yglesias writes, as the universe has conspired to make it last as long as possible.

Firedoglake’s Christy Hardin Smith doesn’t buy Dole’s claim that she bears no responsibility for the North Carolina GOP airing the ad linking a Democratic gubernatorial candidate with Wright. Smith submitted a petition to Dole, on behalf of liberal blog readers, urging the senator to step in and oppose the ad. Dole’s campaign responded, saying it would not referee the dispute, and Smith is calling Dole’s leadership abilities “pathetic.”
