MIDDAY BLOG ROUNDUP

@ 1:27 pm by Chris Good

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s (R) problems in Louisiana are reason enough for conservative bloggers to write him off John McCain’s vice presidential short list, while liberals examine McCain’s cozy relationship with reporters.

The Corner’s Kathryn Jean Lopez says Jindal, despite being tossed around as a running mate, has his work cut out for him at home now that Democrat Don Cazayoux defeated Republican Woody Jenkins for a Louisiana House seat in a conservative district. Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey urges the GOP to let Jindal clean up that mess before moving on to the national stage.

At Daily Kos, BarbinMD says tough questions for McCain from reporters are few and far between, citing an AP story that suggests they have little to ask him. At the same time, Bill in Portland Maine blasts McCain for embracing talk show host and Watergate conspirator G. Gordon Liddy.

Andrew Sullivan of The Daily Dish counts the number of negative YouTube clips featuring McCain without finding a corresponding group of positive videos.

TPM Election Central’s Eric Kleefeld cites a new Rasmussen poll of Texans that suggests trouble for Senate Republicans, noting that Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is leading state Rep. Rick Noriega (D) 47 percent to 43 percent; Cornyn’s small edge shows a broader trend for the party, Kleefeld says, as Texas is usually a safe state.

Barack Obama is pandering in private to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, conservative bloggers deduce after reading in the Wall Street Journal that he would consider lifting some federal regulations on the group. Powerline’s Scott Johnson said Obama’s post-political identity has been blown, and Hot Air’s Ed Morrisey said puts Obama in “fairly radical terrority.”

The Hill welcomes comment from anyone and will almost always post it whether it is favorable or critical, as long as it is substantive and advances debate.
  1. Seriously, something is very funny with the indiana polls.

Here's the spread on Real Clear Politics: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/in/indiana_democratic_primary-639.html

In Indiana, you can't do automated calls… so how is SurveyUSA, which isn't supposed to have any live call centers, even polling?

This is what the other pollster, InsideAdvantage had to say:

"Consequently, our ability to have accurately polled the winner in most contests this season is hampered by this constraint in Indiana. This is a phone room poll, and phone room polls are now no longer, in my judgment, as reliable as automated polls for horserace contests such as these primaries."
