Clinton Camp: Florida's A Victory, But We Object To Michigan

@ 11:04 pm by Walter Alarkon

Here's the statement that Harold Ickes and Tina Flournoy, Hillary Clinton's chief representatives at today's Democratic Rules And Bylaws Committee meeting, released as a response to the delegate deal:

Today’s results are a victory for the people of Florida who will have a voice in selecting our Party’s nominee and will see its delegates seated at our party’s convention.  The decision by the Rules and Bylaws Committee honors the votes that were cast by the people of Florida and allocates the delegates accordingly.

We strongly object to the Committee’s decision to undercut its own rules in seating Michigan’s delegates without reflecting the votes of the people of Michigan.

The Committee awarded to Senator Obama not only the delegates won by Uncommitted, but four of the delegates won by Senator Clinton. This decision violates the bedrock principles of our democracy and our Party.

We reserve the right to challenge this decision before the Credentials Committee and appeal for a fair allocation of Michigan’s delegates that actually reflect the votes as they were cast.

Clinton Folks Not Pleased

@ 7:16 pm by Andy Barr

After a disappointing outcome on both Florida and Michigan, a number of Hillary Clinton supporters immediately stormed out chanting "Denver."

Some of those that stayed shouted insults at committee members, and booed Barack Obama whenever his name was mentioned.

The meeting had been gaveled to a close.

Michigan Proposal Passes

@ 7:12 pm by Andy Barr

The Michigan proposal passed, 19-8, meaning 118 delegates from the state will be seated but they will only get half a vote.

Clinton gets 69 delegates at half a vote while Obama will get 59.

Near bedlam broke out after the vote as furious Clinton supporters began chanting "Denver, Denver" and heckling the committee to the point that it was hard to hear them.

This Doesn't Sound Over

Harold Ickes: "Mrs. Clinton has instructed me to reserve her rights to take this to the credentials committee."

On to Michigan

@ 6:56 pm by Andy Barr

The proposal put forward on Michigan adopts what the state Democratic Party leaders put forward, but the committee does punish the state by cutting its delegates in half.

The Michigan proposal puts the number of delegates for Clinton at 69 to Obama's 59, with each delegate getting half a vote. That brings the vote total to 34.5 for Clinton and 29.5 for Obama.

Don Fowler broke with Clinton, who he supports, by saying he would support the measure.

Harold Ickes appears beyond furious as he is expressing his disgust with the committee's apparent decision to award the "uncommitted" delegates outright to Obama.

Quote of the Day

@ 6:54 pm by Andy Barr

Hillary Clinton campaign adviser Harold Ickes on Michigan:

"Was the process flawed? You bet your ass it was flawed."

Ausman Passes

@ 6:49 pm by Andy Barr

In a near unanimous vote, the RBC voted to fully restore Florida's delegation but each delegate will only get one-half vote.

In this rule and in breaking with the Ausman petition, superdelegates from Florida will also be given only one-half vote.

All in all, not great news for Clinton.

Next up: The Ausman Petition

@ 6:44 pm by Andy Barr

After a significant hit for Clinton, the debate now moves to the Ausman plan. Committeeman Ralph Dawson is proposing that 100 percent of Florida's delegates be seated but be given only one-half vote.

According to the proposal and Dawson, Clinton will receive 52.5 delegates, Obama will receive 33.5 delegates and former Sen. John Edwards will receive 6.5.

Florida Won't Get 100 Percent

@ 6:39 pm by Andy Barr

Hillary Clinton's effort to seat 100 percent of Florida's delegates seated failed in the first vote of the day.

Only 12 of the 30 members of the Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to restore the delegation while 15 voted against.

Immediately, the Clinton-friendly part of the crowd started chanting "Denver."
